A Humble Beginning

Madhukant Goyal’s story is an attestation to the power of determination and hard work. Born and raised in Kaleras, a quaint town in Madhya Pradesh’s Morena district to the prestigious Indian Engineering Services (IES), reflects the sheer dedication he put in learning. His early life was marked by simplicity and challenges. With a family of five, including his parents, an elder sister, and a younger brother, he grew up in a household where his father ran a small dairy farm, and his mother was a homemaker.

Facing Adversity with Courage

Madhukant’s academic journey was not without its hurdles. Despite being a bright student, his family faced a severe financial crisis when he was in the 8th grade, forcing them to sell their home and move to a rented property. This setback meant that Madhukant could not pursue his education outside his hometown, which lacked English medium schools. However, refusing to be defeated by the challenges that lay in front of him, he took the initiative to learn English and switched to an English medium school in the 9th grade. His perseverance paid off when he excelled in his 10th board exams, boosting his confidence and reaffirming his belief in hard work.

Pursuit of Higher Education

With renewed determination, Madhukant’s parents sent him to Gwalior for higher studies, where he took coaching for the IIT JEE and AIEEE exams. Sacrificing leisure and entertainment, he dedicated himself to his studies and secured admission to NIT Jamshedpur in Civil Engineering through the AIEEE examination. Throughout his graduation, his singular focus was to secure a job and support his family.

Entering the Professional World

Upon completing his graduation, Madhukant landed a job with Larsen and Toubro (L&T), a prestigious engineering and construction company. However, the demanding nature of the job, coupled with long hours and mental pressure that he even worked on Sundays sometimes, made him yearn for a change. He longed for a more balanced life where he could stay connected with his family and friends.

Turning Point: Aspiring for a Government Job

Determined to redirect his career path, Madhukant resigned from his job to prepare for government exams. He joined coaching classes with friends, but as they lost interest and got distracted, however, he remained steadfast in his commitment. Understanding the limited opportunities he had, he dedicated himself to rigorous preparation.

Achieving Remarkable Success

Madhukant’s hard work and dedication bore fruit when he secured an All India Rank of 11 in the GATE exam. The joy of his success was shared not only by his family but by his entire hometown. But he did not stop there. He also appeared for the UPSC exam, clearing the prelims, mains, and interview round, and achieved an All India Rank of 62 in the Indian Engineering Services (IES). His remarkable journey from a small town to becoming an IES officer is a source of inspiration for many.
