Personal Journey and Early Life

Educational Journey

Deepak completed his primary education at Kendriya Vidyalaya in Ahmedabad before continuing his schooling at Kendriya Vidyalaya No. 1 in Jaipur. With an affinity for Physics, he selected Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics for his senior secondary education. Aspiring to pursue engineering, he set his sights on securing admission to the prestigious Indian Institute of Technology (IIT).

His determination paid off when he cleared the Joint Entrance Examination (JEE) and gained admission to IIT BHU (Varanasi) for a degree in Mechanical Engineering. His four years at IIT BHU were transformative, not only in terms of academic growth but also in fostering lasting friendships and broadening his perspectives.

Ups and Downs in Career Decisions

Upon graduating from IIT BHU in 2020, Deepak faced a pivotal decision. He had accepted a placement offer from the Adani Group, but he harbored an underlying desire to explore the civil services. Reflecting upon his rural upbringing and a childhood story shared by his mother highlighting the significance of District Collectors, he resolved to pursue a career in public service.

Path to UPSC Success

In 2020, Deepak embarked on his preparation for the Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) Civil Services Examination. He meticulously studied NCERT textbooks followed by standard reference materials. Recognizing the importance of practice and revision, he incorporated mock tests and answer writing into his regimen.

During the 2021 UPSC Prelims, Deepak encountered unexpected challenges, revealing the insufficiency of textbook-based knowledge. He realized the paramount importance of practice and revision to master the UPSC syllabus. He intensified his efforts, focusing on self-study and guidance from his mother, sister, and online resources.

Overcoming Challenges

Armed with increased confidence, Deepak approached the 2022 UPSC Prelims with a stronger foundation. After clearing the Mains, he dedicated two months in Delhi to prepare for the Interview, practicing mock interviews and solidifying his knowledge in Mechanical Engineering, his optional subject.

The Interview lived up to its reputation for subjectivity and unpredictability. However, Deepak approached it with confidence and composure.

The Moment of Truth

The anticipation preceding the UPSC results was palpable. As the list unfolded, Deepak searched diligently for his name and was elated to find it. His family erupted in joy, particularly his mother, who had been his constant source of support throughout his journey.

Memorable Moments

After securing his place in the UPSC Civil Services, Deepak experienced several unforgettable moments:

• His triumphant return to his village, where he was greeted with garlands and blessings at the local temple.
• The heartfelt congratulations and expressions of pride from extended family and friends.
• Sharing his achievement with his grandfather, who understood the significance of his accomplishment and bestowed his blessings upon him.
