Introduction:

Akshay Doshi, a resident of Barmer, Rajasthan, has etched his name in the annals of academic accomplishment by securing All India Rank 75 (AIR 75) in the prestigious UPSC Civil Services Examination (CSE) 2023. This remarkable feat culminates an arduous journey that spanned eight years, marked by unwavering perseverance and a relentless pursuit of knowledge.

Educational Roots and UPSC Aspirations:

After completing his secondary education in Barmer, Doshi embarked on a transformative academic sojourn. He excelled in IIT coaching in Kota during his 11th and 12th grades and subsequently cleared the Joint Entrance Examination (JEE) in 2011. His academic brilliance propelled him to pursue a Master’s degree in Chemistry at the prestigious Indian Institute of Technology Kharagpur (IIT Kharagpur).

During his undergraduate years, Doshi’s intellectual curiosity and patriotism ignited his aspiration to serve the nation through the UPSC Civil Services Examination. Recognizing the formidable competition and challenges posed by this coveted examination, he remained undeterred and resolved to give it his best shot.

Initial Attempts and Setbacks:

Doshi’s inaugural attempt at the UPSC CSE in 2016 did not yield the desired outcome. Despite his diligent efforts, he fell short of the cut-off mark by a mere nine points, a bitter disappointment that highlighted the need for more comprehensive preparation.

Undeterred, Doshi joined a coaching institute to focus on the General Studies (GS) papers 2 and 3, which are crucial for the UPSC Mains examination. His enhanced preparation paid dividends, as he successfully cleared the Prelims in 2018. However, he narrowly missed qualifying for the Mains, underscoring the need for a more meticulous strategy.

Shifting Focus and Renewed Determination:

In subsequent attempts, Doshi shifted his focus to concurrently preparing for both the Prelims and Mains examinations, recognizing the importance of a strong foundation in both stages. He also switched to studying Optional Chemistry, which aligned with his educational background and interests.

Despite his unwavering determination, success continued to elude Doshi. In 2019, he once again failed to qualify for the Mains examination. As the fifth attempt approached, self-doubt began to creep in.

A Pivotal Decision and the Path to Success:

The COVID-19 pandemic in 2020 disrupted Doshi’s preparation. Uncertainty loomed over the examination schedule, and he decided to move back home to Jaipur. During this time, he realized the value of collaboration and support.

He found a study partner who shared his determination and learning style. Together, they meticulously planned their preparation, synchronizing their study schedules to maximize efficiency. Revising GS and optional materials regularly became a priority, and Doshi incorporated answer writing into their practice. Additionally, he invested time in understanding the UPSC’s exam pattern and mindset through topper’s copies and PYQs (previous year’s questions).

The Final Attempt and Triumph:

In 2023, Doshi entered his sixth and final attempt with unwavering resolve. He applied for both the civil services and forest services, hoping to improve his chances of success. Although he cleared the Forest Services Prelims, his focus remained on UPSC.

With relentless effort, Doshi dedicated himself to studying and practicing answer writing in the final months leading up to the Mains examination. His persistence and hard work were rewarded when he finally cleared the Mains examination. The interview, which had always been a concern, went smoothly as Doshi remained composed and confident throughout the process.

The Moment of Triumph:

On May 30, 2023, the UPSC results were announced. To Doshi’s astonishment, he had secured AIR 75, a testament to his years of dedication and perseverance. His family, friends, and mentors shared in his joy and celebrated his remarkable accomplishment.

Lessons Learned and Advice for Aspirants:
